that girl, forever on the outside looking in. But she needs her confidence this weekend. She’s the acclaimed “beauty-maker” for the Alabama society wedding of the decade.

When high-school crush Tom Wells Jr. also returns to town and shows up at her shop looking for a haircut, Ginger’s thinly veiled insecurities threaten to keep her locked away from love, Despite Tom’s best efforts, Ginger can’t forget how he disappeared on her twelve years ago and broke her heart. Can she ever trust him again?

When Tom challenges her to see her own beauty, Ginger must decide if she will remained chained to the past or move freely into a new, exciting future.

A Brush with Love A January Wedding Story A Year of Weddings Novella Book 2 edition by Rachel Hauck Religion Spirituality eBooks

I really liked the character of Ginger be a use I could identify with a lot of the insecure thoughts she had. So on more than one occasion I found myself highlighting thoughts she had because I recognized them as kind of my own in a way.

As a piece if literature on a whole I really felt that this book was too vanilla. Even a little stilted. There wasn't enough time character development in the pastor and he seemed to have the right right from the start. He seemed pretty confident as to who he was which is good but it made for boring and unrealistic reading. It was almost as if this book was written to witness to a new Christian or a non Christian. But it was kind of undercooked in that department too.

I tried out this author for the first time and I don't think I'll be reading another any time soon.

Great light romance with fantastic Christian themes about Gods love for us and who we are in Him.
Love reading and getting a few surprises
I liked this story but it was predictable and at times very preachy. I like faith based fiction but this felt a little too much. It is a good story and full of the hope that comes with romance. The author did great at that.
I loved the message of acceptance in this story that permeated every aspect. Great read for everyone. This was very believable.
I am a huge Rachel Hauck fan and have loved all of her books. This sweet novella was no different. I loved the theme of accepting yourself the way God sees you, which is beautiful. I can relate to this struggle on a personal level. I would have liked to have have seen more of the development of the romance between the two main characters, but I understand that the constraints of a novella don't allow for this. I deducted one star mainly because of a small scene that suggests an unmarried couple will be sharing a room (not the main characters). This bothered me because the genre is Christian fiction, and I wondered why the author did this. That being said, this is a beautiful story, and I would recommend it.
I applaud the author's Christ-centered focus in this wonderful novella. That focus has, quite frankly, been sorely lacking in many of the bride novellas published by this Christian publisher. Without wanting to be nit-picky, however, the cover designer should have portrayed the hairdresser with a scarf around her neck and long sleeves (this is not a criticism of the author in any way). The heroine (Ginger) reflects longingly on the "smooth-skinned" girls and always covers up her physical flaws. Especially since her physical "deformities" are what comprise the largest part of this story, the woman depicted on the cover is not an accurate representation. I also found it difficult to believe the wonderful but almost-too-perfect-to-be-real hero, Tom--given he's a strong Christian (albeit with a self-proclaimed rebel past), who left town quickly during his senior year in high school under suspect circumstances, and who has been away for several years--would still be friends with many of those in the wedding party who seemed very worldly and egocentric, if not downright insensitive and mean to the heroine. All in all, this is a well-done, satisfying novella--fleshed out characters and storyline (although some portions were overly long, such as the VW stuck in the mud, and too much emphasis on Ginger's scars) and I would enthusiastically recommend it. Thank you, Ms. Hauck, for not leaving Jesus out of your book, and presenting a God-honoring story of finding our strength and security in a relationship with Him.
Tom sees Ginger as beautiful and secretly liked her a lot before his dad moved them to avoid scandal. Ginger thought she and Tom were friends but she never heard from him after he left town. Ginger was burned by a fire when she was a young girl due to her mother's negligence. She grew up feeling like a freak and afraid of exposing her burns. She worked hard to make other women beautiful, and made a name for herself before returning home to open a beauty salon. Her relationship with her mom is sad and she doesn't want to be like her. The way she views herself is through the eyes of only seeing her burned and damaged skin from the neck down. She goes out of her way to help others and make them look their best, no matter the pain to herself. When Tom returns to town for a wedding he knows he needs to see Ginger and explain why she never heard from him. Tom wanted to get through to Ginger that he saw her as beautiful and that God loved her. It was a sweet story of hope and renewal.
I really liked the character of Ginger be a use I could identify with a lot of the insecure thoughts she had. So on more than one occasion I found myself highlighting thoughts she had because I recognized them as kind of my own in a way.
